Extraordinairement beau d'un point de vue aérodynamique, il était équipé des puissants moteurs en ligne allemands DB 601, produits sur licence par l'industrie aéronautique italienne. Les nouvelles motorisations et la solidité du projet aéronautique ont équipé la Régie Aéronautique d’avions de chasse en mesure de combattre « à égal » avec ceux des alliées. Les performances de vol, comparées aux avions de chasse de la génération précédente équipés de moteurs radiaux tels que le Fiat G-50 et le Macchi Mc-200, étaient en effet bien meilleures. Manœuvrable et rapide (il pouvait atteindre 600 km/h), il était armé dans les premières versions de deux mitrailleuses Breda-SAFAT calibre 12,7 mm installées sur le nez. Le Macchi M.C. 205 Veltro est considéré par beaucoup comme le meilleur chasseur italien de la Seconde Guerre mondiale. L'évolution du "Folgore" a conservé le design aéronautique excellent de son prédécesseur et a été équipée, comme les autres chasseurs de la "série 5", du moteur allemand Daimler-Benz DB605. Le puissant moteur à 12 cylindres en V, également produit sous licence par Fiat, permettait au Veltro d'atteindre une vitesse maximale de 640 km/h. The Tornado GR.1 (Ground Attack/Reconnaissance) was the initial version adopted by Royal Air Force in early ‘80s. In 1996 the Tornado was upgraded to the Gr.4 standard which was characterized by improved operational capabilities, new avionics systems for navigation and the adoption of new ‘on-board’ technologies. The new German army made use of the experiences collected in World War I to realize their modern reconstruction based on motorization. In spite of the limitations of the Treaty of Versailles able commanders introduced civilian vehicles into the army, thus creating a motorized mentality. In 1940 already, a battalion consisting of 3 to 4 companies each equipped with 52 motorcycles with sidecars and 4 motorcy-cles (single), was integrated into the motorized infantry and the armored divisions. Moreover, motorcycles were present in nearly all other Wehrmacht units, especially with the reconaissance units and the command, as well as the pioneer and the supply units. Produced in 16.500 units, the BMW R 75 together with the Zijndapp KS 750 formed the nucleus of the motorized units on all theatres of operations, especially in Africa and in Russia. The motorcycle was armored with an MG 34 mounted on the sidecar. On the road, it reached a maximum speed of 92 Km/h.
