During the 1980s, Paris-Dakar was one of the most important event for all fans of two and four wheels. Around the middle of the decade, the German manufacturer BMW created a special series of the famous R80 GS motorcycle dedicated to the prestigious off-road competition. Starting from the chassis of the standard version, appreciated by the customers for solidity, robustness and reliability, the Munich manufacturer made several modifications and improvements. In addition to the adoption of technical solutions that increased the off-road and endurance vocation such as the off-road tires, the reinforcement bars, the dedicated protections, the most characteristic element was the large 32-liter oversized tank specifically developed for the special version. Great attention also to the graphics with the application of the famous BMW Motorsport three colours blue, purple and red livery . It was produced on a limited scale from 1984 to 1987 and is still highly appreciated by collectors and two-wheel fans.
