What are RC aircraft?
When we talk about RC aircraft, we mean model airplanes, gliders, and other flying machines. The abbreviation “RC” stands for “remote control” and highlights the special feature of these models: they are remotely operated and can actually lift off the ground and be flown through the air using a controller.
How do RC aircraft work?
To function properly, RC aircraft require a motor. Models are generally divided into electric-powered and combustion-powered aircraft. In addition to the motor, they need a sufficiently powerful battery that supplies energy and drives the motor. Control is managed through a transmitter in the controller and a receiver inside the model. By moving the various control elements on the transmitter, a radio signal is sent to the aircraft, which is then converted into the corresponding movement – such as steering inputs or propulsion.
Which RC aircraft are suitable for beginners?
For beginners, RC aircraft with electric motors are particularly recommended, as they are easier to operate. Because aircraft can crash and break if controlled incorrectly, beginners should choose models with simple handling features. Products with fewer, easy-to-use control functions are ideal. While these RC models won’t enable professional aerobatics, first loops and small maneuvers can be practiced wonderfully.
What must be considered when flying RC aircraft?

Transmitter-receiver distance

You need an even, obstacle-free surface that is long enough for safe takeoffs and landings.

Where are you allowed to fly RC aircraft?
Where and by whom a model aircraft may be flown depends on the model’s size, weight, and type of propulsion? Combustion-powered aircraft are generally not allowed to fly in residential or recreational areas, while electric aircraft may be used there. Larger or heavier models may require official approval and a flight permit, and models weighing 25 kilograms or more additionally require a model pilot’s license.
