It has become the real "workhorse" of the Army capable of carrying ammunition and equipment in a very effective way. In a lot of conflicts, as in Iraq and Afghanistan, it has been often modified by the field workshops, on the specific requirements of the crews, in order to be more and more effective in the hard operating environments, Furthermore some HEMTT versions have been modified to be used in escort and convoys protection duties. The "Humvee" went into production during the 1980s and is characterized by its large dimensions and operational flexibility, due in part to the four-wheel drive and the robust structure, which can withstand the most challenging operational and environmental conditions. Different versions were made for roles such as troop transport, logistics, advanced reconnaissance and target acquisition. The M966 Tow Carrier version was equipped with a Tow missile system mounted on the roof of the vehicle in order to increase the Humvee's offensive potential against tanks and other armored vehicles. At the beginning this tank had wheels with rubber rim,which will be replaced in the following productions starting from February 1944, but it was equipped withthe new turret with increased protection and better cupola for the commander. Besides some of thesevehicles maintained the characteristic system of dust filters Feifel, and the smoke grenade launchers. On thetanks produced since August 1943 was also applied a magnetic mine paste that will become standard on alltanks of the German Army.

Later, Ferdinand Porsche developed an amphibian version of this car, called the Schwimmwagen. The light weight of this vehicle (about 1/2 ton) permitted crossing of muddy areas, since only two men were sufficient to keep this vehicle moving. For reconnaissance and liaison missions, water had to be crossed frequently, which was impossible with other vehicles.

Among the different versions that were proposed, the medium off road passenger cars, four wheel drive platform, built by Opelwerk and Auto Union found favour.The Wehrmacht used them in various configurations as troop transports, as tow tractors and in reconnaissance roles. The Kfz. 12, built by Horch (Horch was part of the Auto Union group together with Wanderer, Audi and DKW), proved to be very reliable and robust in any operating environment due to its simple but effective design. The design was simple and straightforward yet extremely rational. The large front loading ramp allowed for the rapid disembarkation of a fully armed infantry squad as well as a 30-ton medium Sherman tank. The armor was very light, protecting the diesel engine, which enabled the LCM to reach a maximum speed of 8 knots, and the crew required for navigation and close defense, consisting of four men. However, significant was its loading capacity and operational flexibility, which allowed the LCM-3 to carve out an important place in 20th-century military history. Warning! The L.V.T. tracked vehicles (an acronym for Landing Vehicle Tracked) were developed to equip the United States armed forces, including the Army and the Marine Corps, with a suitable vehicle for amphibious operations capable of providing a good level of protection. Often known as "Amtrac," they were widely used in the Pacific theater against Japanese forces, as well as in the European theater during the last year of the war. The LVT-4, in particular, represented a significant improvement over previous versions. With the redesign, the engine was relocated to a central position, freeing up the rear of the vehicle for the addition of a ramp that allowed for the rapid loading and unloading of light vehicles or small-caliber artillery pieces to support landing troops.
